With the bold claim that it will deliver a “hardcore smackdown” to gasoline-powered cars, Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, unveiled the all-new Tesla Roadster. In an amazing evolution from the original Roadster, the new roadster is truly awe-inspiring.
Musk claims unheard of performance figures for a street-legal performance vehicle, boasting a 0-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds, a quarter mile time of 8.9 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 250 mph. These figures, Musk also noted, are only for the prototype and may very well increase by the time of production, in early 2020.
Even more impressive perhaps, is the cars notably increased driving range, now 620 miles, due to its large 200 kilowatt-hour battery pack, which is twice the capacity of the currently largest available in any Tesla.
Gear-heads will quickly note, and most likely love, the gorgeous targa top roof, racing style bucket seats, and sleek, NSX-esque styling.
Pricing will start at $200,000 with a $50,000 deposit, and $250,000 to acquire one of the first 1,000 “Founder’s Series” that will be first off of the production lines.
What do you think? Will it live up to the hype? Will it be outpaced by other hypercar manufactures by the time it reaches production?
