Despite coming off a record-breaking lap at Car and Driver magazine’s Lightning Lap competition at the Virginia International Raceway, in which it edged out the four-year record held previously by the Porsche 918 by one-tenth of a second, the Ford GT simply couldn’t topple the immense speed of the Lamborghini Huracán Performante on The Grand Tour’s test track, the “Eboladrome”.
In this week’s episode, Jeremy Clarkson made good on his promise to secure a Ford GT for the show to test on their track. While Clarkson raved about the performance of the car (and made quite a few fair complaints as well), when it came time for the shows test driver Abbie Eaton to put Ford’s supercar through the paces it ended up trailing the raging bull by a full second.
You can see from the lap board that the Ford GT was just barely able to beat the two McLarens, only managing three-tenths of a second lead. While the track, temperature, and a host of other variables certainly could have made a significant impact on all of the vehicles tested it’s still quite the time gap.
For comparison’s sake, the following are the top ten lap times for Car and Driver’s Lightning Laps. While all of the vehicles tested on each track don’t make it onto both lists, the 650S which only trailed by a fraction of a second on the Eboladrome trails the GT by a massive 2.8 seconds on the Virginia International Raceway.

While both cars are out of reach for most people, given the chance would the lap times make a difference to you? Which car would you rather have in your garage?
