Would you buy a Carbon Fiber GT350R for $127,000?

On the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Jay tests out the all carbon fiber bodied Ford Mustang GT350R, developed by Speedkore, a high-performance shop based in Grafton, WI.

The GT350R, already a potent track weapon, is said to drop hundreds of pounds with Speedkore’s upgrades, according to Vice President of Speedkore, David Salvaggio. While exact weight differences aren’t specified, the transformation is said to drop at least “400 pounds”.

So how much does all this beautiful carbon fiber cost you? Speedkore says the final tally comes in at about $64,000. While it may or may not sound like a good deal, consider the fact that it is approximately double the MSRP of the car you’ve already bought, and you definitely did not pay the msrp price, but likely much more, and this car quickly approaches the $150,000 mark, putting you well into supercar territory.

With so many high-performance vehicles currently available and coming soon, such as the Camaro ZL1 1LE, Nissan GT-R, Corvette Z06 and upcoming ZR1, the Demon and Hellcat, as well as a host of options on the aftermarket for those willing to put in the wrench time or their wallets, the price may become an even harder pill to swallow.

Leno, who owns a GT350R, says that the car is quicker and lighter than the factory version, but without concrete data it’s hard to quantify the value of all that carbon.

Check out the video below the break, and let us know what you think of Speedkore’s Mustang.

Does the price justify the product?

Camaro ZL1 1LE Destroy the Ring in 7:16.04

According to reports released from Chevrolet, the company’s newest track monster, the Camaro Zl1 1LE  was able to lap the Nordschleife in an incredible 7:16.04. That time makes it 13 seconds faster than the regular Camaro ZL1.

Unlike the companies other high performance car, the Z06, which has recently become embattled for over-heating issues and poor track performance, the ZL1 has received nearly universal praise. The 1LE’s amazing lap time will surely boost that image even further. To provide an illustration of just how impressive the cars time was, take into account the level of cars and their respective times which it has beaten.

Nissan GT-R- 7:19.0

Ferrari 488 GTB- 7:21.63

911 GT2 RS- 7:18.00

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 – 7:25.0

Even more impressive is when you consider the cars insane price point. At a starting point of only $69,995 ( avoiding any ridiculous dealer mark-ups anyhow), the ZL1 1LE is an amazing bargain, coming in tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than the next lowest price car mentioned above.
